One in five children in the U.S. live in poverty and grow up with limited opportunities to be healthy. The numbers here in Tampa Bay are just as worrying where 30 percent of children are growing up in poverty. That’s according to the City Health Dashboard.

In Tampa, Florida, Winners Lacrosse is on a mission to make a real difference for 150+ local youth. Our program goes beyond lacrosse; it’s a path that guides these young individuals toward important life skills like teamwork, discipline, and resilience—skills they need for school, work, and life.

For children facing the challenges of poverty, the odds can be tough. They often lack access to positive after-school and summer activities, increased stress, and difficult experiences such as crime.

Winners’ Lacrosse steps in to provide mentorship, sports training, character development, and a supportive community that helps youth overcome adversity.

Our staff, coaches, teachers, and mentors, foster a sense of belonging, and our safe, supportive environment ensures these kids thrive in a nurturing atmosphere to create a real and lasting impact in Tampa.

Tampa’s Origin Story

Jordan Jolly (#19) on the field at Durant High School

WINNERS Tampa was started in memory of Jordan Jolly

In 2007, Jordan Jolly was nine years old. His parents took him to watch his oldest brother play in his first club lacrosse game. Jordan immediately fell in love with the sport of lacrosse, turning to his mother and father with excitement and saying “I want to do THAT!”

Jordan was overweight, a poor student, and preferred video games to being active. Regardless, his parents registered him in a local lacrosse program. Jordan was not very good when he started playing, but he had a passion and dedication! He spent all his free time with a stick in his hand. By the time he had graduated high school, Jordan was a star player for Durant High School. He played lacrosse year round, between club and travel ball. He was instrumental in Durant having one of the first school teams in Hillsborough county.

Lacrosse did for Jordan what you would hope a sport would do! He became a strong, lean, and fast athlete. His grades improved. He was a leader on and off the field. He had self-esteem, he learned teamwork, he learned important life lessons about winning and losing.

Sadly, Jordan Jolly passed away unexpectedly on August 31, 2019 while attending college in Georgia. After his passing, his parents and his father’s company, Celestar Corporation, wanted to do something to honor his memory and his love of lacrosse.
