I’ve tried to start this post about five times now, and keep distracting myself away. There is so much to say in a short amount of space, but I must begin somewhere. After much thought, I have accepted another job and will be stepping down as program director at the end of the year. The decision was incredibly difficult, but lacrosse is just one of my many passions in life and at the age of 24 it’s best to start exploring now!

However, this journey for the past two years has been nothing short of amazing. I am so thankful for the opportunity given to me by both Matt Breslin (Executive Director) and our Board of Directors.

I want to say thank you so much to everyone that has been a part of my WINNERS story. I have learned so much and the most from our Executive Director Matt Breslin. He is not only an outstanding leader, boss, executive director, but also one heck of a human being. WINNERS Lacrosse will continue to thrive under his direction. He exemplifies hard work and dedication more than anyone I know, and it has been my pleasure working with him for these past two years.

Working with WINNERS was so much more than a job to me. After going through an intense four years playing lacrosse at the Division I level, WINNERS helped me reclaim my love and passion for the sport and remember how much fun it can be! I will forever be thankful for that. Also, seeing how impactful this sport and program can be has changed my own life. There are so many stories I could share from Justice who now wants to play lacrosse in college after getting the experience of visiting Hopkins, to Asia who stopped herself from physically engaging with another peer after using the techniques she learned from mindfulness training in our program, to the numerous kids who think lacrosse isn’t for them but end up loving it by the end of my gym class presentations. I could go on forever and ever. For this reason, I can’t say goodbye, but rather see you later. I plan to come back and help with programs whenever I can and of course spread the great work WINNERS is doing wherever I go because it is so important.

WINNERS has filled my life with so much joy interacting with our players and parents. You all are so great, and I’m going to miss you so much! Through WINNERS programs, we have created a safe and welcoming space for kids to play and have fun no matter your background, ethnicity/race, socioeconomic status, sexuality, gender identity, anyone and everyone is welcome. We judge our success by the number of smiles we see, not by the number of goals scored. That is why WINNERS will continue to do amazing work and impact thousands of lives—there just isn’t anything like it! Thank you to everyone I’ve interacted with on this journey – coaches, school administrators, donors, supporters, family, friends, parents, and players. We couldn’t have accomplished so much without your help!

The search has begun for the next program director, so if you or anyone you know is interested, please send a resume and cover letter to Matt Breslin at mbreslin@winnerslacrosse.org.
